- Full Description
- A new architecture of private automatic branch exchange (PABX) made of any number of electronic boxes (size equivalent to an Internet box) called "Hopster" to connect internal and external lines, and identical or lower number of micro-computers connected to one or several Hopsters, each via a USB link. Computers are connected together through a local network which can also provide an IP telephone system. The external lines can be of any kind : wire, internet or wireless. - Advantages and Innovations
-
Advantages are as follows : Low cost : Manufacturing costs are as low as possible because everything which can be done by software is made by software, everything which can be standard is standard. Only a small piece of hardware to connect telephone sets and external lines is specific. Unlimited features : The PC provides very high computation power, large amounts of memory, mass storage and a high level man-machine interface. Beyond classical telephone features, the PC capabilities allow the implementation of sophisticated ones such as dedicated answering machines, automatic routing, efficient management programs and still much more, even on very small configurations. Small systems installation by the user himself : A cableman is needed only when the size of the system makes it somewhat complicated. For the rest, no special skill is needed to connect the telephone sets and the telephone Iines to one or several Hopsters. Indefinitely scalable : The Hopsters can be added one by one according to the needs of the user. In the same way, when it becomes necessary, a new computer with its own Hopsters can be added. This feature allows to continuously increase the size of the system while never throwing away any element. So that, at the time of purchase, the customer can exactly invest according to his needs. Cabling dramatically reduced : The telephone sets are to be locally connected to the local Hopster, instead to a distribution frame generally located in the basement. Easy maintenance : Maintenance is as easy as possible : the faulty element (PC or Hopster) is identified by the system and displayed on the management PC. The faulty element has just to be unplugged and replaced by a new one.
Connection to any kind of outside network. Connection to outside networks is provided by the Hopsters. As an example, a wireless connection can be provided in places where no physical network is available. USBX patent has been delivered in France, Europe, USA and China - Stage of Development
