General information

Short Summary
This Greek organisation specialises in uniquely natural products made from mastiha resin exclusively sourced from a collective of local mastiha growers. The client is looking for commercial agreements with foreign importers, distributors and wholesalers.
Full Description
The client produces, packages and trades natural mastiha, mastiha oil, mastiha water, and mastiha powder, as well as natural chewing gum.

Mastiha is the name of a natural, aromatic resinous sap formed by the mastic tree in a teardrop shape that falls on the ground from superficial scratches scored into the bark of the tree’s trunk and main branches by the growers.

This unique and prized substance is often known as the tear that pleases, perfumes, soothes, and heals. It has a distinctive flavour and aroma, and it has been scientifically proved to have uniquely beneficial and highly therapeutic properties. The client’s vision and target is to introduce mastiha to consumers around the world through its unique and healthy products, as well as an indispensable ingredient for a variety of functional everyday products.

The client’s facilities cover a total surface of approximately 10,000 m2 and house the total range of its activities, including two production units:-
- mastiha processing and packaging.
- confection of products and distillation of mastiha oil.

The organisation has great respect for and a strong commitment towards its extensive network of associate growers. Thus, it is dedicated to:-
- upgrading mastiha cultivation
- improving its producing procedure
- guaranteeing the highest possible profits for them.

The client already has an impressive rate of international trading activity, exporting approximately 70% of mastiha annual production to foreign markets. But it is keen to expand its global presence even further. So, it is interested in concluding commercial agreements with foreign importers, distributors and wholesalers.
Advantages and Innovations
At the crossroads between east and west, mastiha trees have been planted and cultivated since antiquity. The resin produced by these legendary trees is intrinsically connected to the local traditions, historical events and cultural exchanges of the region and its healing properties and unique characteristics have remained virtually the same.

Although mastic trees (a variety known as lentisks) are found all over the region where the client’s organisation is located, mastiha is only produced in the southern part where the soil and the warm dry climate favour the mastic tree’s cultivation.

The know-how of cultivating mastiha has been included by UNESCO in its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The main products of the Greek organisation have been qualified as Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) products.

Its premises have various processing and packaging facilities, which are also combined with a number of affiliated sites, such as:-
- mastiha factory
- mastiha chewing gum factory
- a museum dedicated to the history and properties of mastiha resin with an exhibition that introduces the visitor to the traditional mastiha cultivation techniques, as well as its history and culture over the centuries.
