General information
- Short Summary
- This Greek company has developed advanced training technology for shipping companies and fishing fleets to prepare crews in order to handle accidents and emergencies at sea. The client offers its know-how and application through commercial agreements with technical support.
- Full Description
-
This expert maritime training provider from Greece specializes in developing online courses on high-risk emergencies at sea. Its skilled team of in-house designers have created software for onboard and onshore exercises using advanced virtual reality (VR) technology for real-case scenarios.
For example, in the case of an emergency such as a fire in a ship’s engine control room, it often takes far too long (more than 30 minutes on average) to decide to release the fire extinguishing system. By then the fire may have already taken full control of the vessel. Maritime safety risk cases are difficult to recreate. In order to remedy this, the client offers a dedicated technology that simulates real-case scenarios, encouraging interaction, risk assessment and training in a safe environment in order for shipping personnel to be prepared if an incident occurs at sea.
The VR tool simulates the most crucial emergency incidents that occur on board, and will enable seafarers to acquire and adopt the required knowledge for managing such urgent incidents.
The application includes interactive and particularly realistic scenarios, which encourage the user to engage with and perform the necessary actions, offering a comprehensive, clear and safe learning experience. The scenarios are based on a risk analysis of crucial incidents that can occur on board and enable seafarers to acquire the necessary knowledge of the relevant safety measures to take if such emergencies occur. The scenarios include:-
- fire in engine control room
- power generator failure
- enclosed space fire such as in cabin
- explosion on board
- lifeboat rescue.
The company’s extensive library of courses are all approved according to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping STCW for seafarers. It is also certified for the development procedure of training material and services as well as for its basic IT skills courses with the following certifications:-
- EN ISO 9001:2015
- EN ISO 27001:2013
- Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL)
- American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)
- ECDL HELLAS SA content certification
The company already has an impressive list of existing clients and partners, but it is interested in expanding its business even further by offering its training technology to foreign partners for commercial agreements with technical assistance. - Advantages and Innovations
-
The technology and know-how offered can assist any shipping crew or fishing fleet with knowledge on how to deal with extremely risky emergencies in a safe, interactive and particularly realistic virtual environment.
These dedicated solutions are designed to support innovation and competitiveness in the marine and maritime sectors. They offer training on high-risk emergencies at sea using virtual reality for real-case scenarios, encouraging interaction, risk assessment and training in a safe environment in order for staff to be trained and prepared if an incident occurs at sea.
The scenarios are integrated into robust online cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) modules that can be applied both onboard and onshore.
The company’s results are impressive with over 1000 vessels supported, more than 50.000 seafarers served and issuing of over 250.000 training certificates. - Stage of Development
