As electrical systems become increasingly dense and high-power electrical devices are widely used recently such as electric vehicle, industrial inverter, etc., mitigating EMI is a critical system design consideration for manufacturers. Without proper mitigation, the interfering signals can system errors and prevent circuits from operating as designed.
So far, the passive EMI solution including capacitors, inductors, and inductive chokes is normally used for mitigation of EMI. However, for high-power electric devices, the filter cost is dramatically increased because larger filter for more attenuation means more money. In addition, the filter can take large board area that causes inefficiency of system.
To solve these problems, Korean SME has developed IC-based active EMI filter solution which is cheaper, lighter, smaller, and generating lower heat than passive EMI solution in 2022. With unique insulation structure and the noise compensation algorithm, the developed solution shows excellent test results as follows;
- Electric car (11kw): reducing costs by 70%, wight by 80%, layout by 30%, and heat generation by 70%
- Solar inverter (34Kw): reducing costs by 70%, area by 75%, volume by 84%
The application areas of this active EMI filter solution are large electric products (i.e. large television, air conditioner, etc.), inverter for industrial use and photovoltaic power generation, electric vehicle and charging station, energy storage station. Recently global companies producing electric vehicle and large home appliances have been cooperated with this Korean SME to test the feasibility of the active EMI filter into their products.
The company is now developing EMI SoC which can not only mitigating EMI noises but also extracting and transmitting/receiving.
The Korean SME is seeking for European partners, which are looking innovative solutions to upgrade their EMI mitigating method for products, under evey type of technical cooperation agreement. - Advantages and Innovations
