General information

Short Summary
Spanish researchers have developed an educational virtual reality tool that aims to increase success in learning basic computer science. This technology has already proved to be useful for student in a real context. They are looking for commercial and research cooperation agreements with institutions related with education. The role of the new partners would be to implement the technology in their facilities and/or give economical support to improve/adapt the technology to their needs.
Full Description
The Spanish research group has been working, in recent years, on the development of digital tools both to improve and to facilitate the learning process using virtual reality. As a result, several applications have been launched to the educational ecosystem with excellent reception.

In basic computer classes, practical exercises on the components of a computer are not usually carried out (assembly-disassembly), due to the cost involved. This could result in a lack of basic knowledge (function and main characteristics of the components of a computer). The aim of this tool is to give students of technical degrees a better understanding of the function and main characteristics of the components of a computer and thus increase the success in learning basic computer skills in a very large number of students.

Opening a computer, removing components or replacing them with others involves a high cost, which is why this video game is a valuable tool. This video game allows the student to deepen this knowledge outside the classroom in an autonomous way.

The results of the validation of this educational tool show statistically the improvement in learning performance, comparing its use with other more traditional learning methodologies (visualisation on flat screens of the same software or a traditional classroom in which only the teacher has access to the inside of a computer).

The university is interested in contact with different partners. Commercial agreements are sought and partners for research cooperation agreements are welcome as well.
Advantages and Innovations
The main novelty of this tool is that it can be viewed both on computer screens and in virtual reality environments. This virtual reality educational game allows "doing" rather than just observing.

Students can learn experientially and progress at their own pace. In addition, the use of virtual reality provokes greater interest and engagement compared to conventional learning environments.

• It allows for increased success in learning basic computer concepts.
• It allows both learning and improving basic computer skills outside the classroom in an autonomous way.
• It provides a better understanding of the function and main characteristics of the components of a computer.
• It generates greater student interest and engagement compared to conventional learning environments.
• The tool has proved to be useful for both students and teachers in a real educational context.

Partner Sought

Expected Role of a Partner
The partner sought, both for license and manufacturing agreement (commercial agreement), will be educational, both private and public, institution that are willing to implement this e-tool as a teaching alternative in their subjects.
Their role will be, for instance, to use this technology as an alternative to the traditional methods.
In addition, the Spanish institution is looking for a research groups and research institutions to collaborate to transfer and bring the technology to the next level applying for European funds.
