Weekly digest - EU news for businesses 27/05/2019

This week: International Forum on Intellectual Property Enforcement, high-level conference on “Skills for Industry Strategy 2030” and new rules for the safe operation of drones.

Events to look out for

International Forum on Intellectual Property Enforcement – 12-13 June, Paris (FR). Jointly organised with the EU Intellectual Property Office and the OECD, this event will discuss ways to resolve governance gaps to counter intellectual property rights infringement.

High-level conference on “Skills for Industry Strategy 2030” – 19-20 June, Brussels (BE). On the first day the conference will focus on discussing solutions for a massive skills upgrade of the EU workforce.

High-Level conference "EU Chemicals Policy 2030” – 27-28 June, Brussels (BE). The European Commission and the Ministry for Environment and Food of Denmark are inviting interested stakeholders to discuss future steps and potential developments of the EU chemicals policy in order to improve the protection of human health and the environment.

Funds available

Makesense incubator launches first pre-seed fund dedicated to social and environmental impact startups. The makesense incubator, specialising in assisting young social and environmental startups, has announced the creation of the first impact-investing fund dedicated to pre-seed activities. With a budget of EUR 8.2m, the new fund will invest amounts of EUR 50 000 to EUR 150 000 to finance the creation of start-ups with high impact and growth potential.

EU policies for better business

New advanced rules for the safe operation of drones. Last week the European Commission adopted EU rules to ensure increasing drone traffic across Europe is safe and secure for people on the ground and in the air. The rules will apply to all operators of drones – both professionals and those flying drones for leisure.

Get involved

Change requests can be made to the code lists defined in the European standard on e-invoicing. On 15 June 2019, the European Commission will publish updated versions of the EAS and VATEX code lists. Requests for change made by 31 May 2019 will be included in the 15 June 2019 update.
