Events to look out for

The infrastructure of data sharing, opportunities, and barriers for the health data market and commercial use – 23 May, Brussels (BE). The European Commission is looking into the opportunities of the data-based economy through the pilot project: “Big Data and B2B platforms: the next big opportunity for Europe”. This is the first of a series of workshops related to data sharing and infrastructure.

From Idea to Commercialisation: IPforBusiness Training Copenhagen – 11 June, Copenhagen (DK). The European Patent Academy together and the European Patent Office (EPO) are organising a European-wide IP training roadshow to support business and innovation – the IPforBusiness roadshow. The training in Copenhagen includes a selection of business case studies published by the EPO, an update on filing strategies and various contributions from local innovation support stakeholders.

Funds available

IPA4SME –boosting IP protection for innovative SMEs. The initiative IPA4SME offers Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) services to protect and value their IP assets. IPA4SME services are open to SMEs that received the Seal of Excellence from the Horizon 2020 SME Instrument. Under the first IPA4SME open call, they can receive financial support (up to €15,000 per company) and tailored IP services. Applications are open until 7 June 2019.

EU policies for better business

VAT Fraud: new tool to help EU countries crack down on criminals and recoup billions. Last week, the European Commission launched a tool to help cut down on criminal Value Added Tax (VAT) fraud, which leads to a gap in public finances to the tune of €50 billion a year. The new system will allow Member States to rapidly exchange and jointly process VAT data, leading to earlier detection of suspicious networks.
