General information
- Short Summary
- A Romanian research institute is looking for partners involved in the production of food/food supplements or feed additives to form a consortium in the next Eurostars calls.
- Full Description
-
The research institute is one of Romania's most important chemical R&D institutes, focused mainly on technological research. It has 12 Scientific Departments: Bio-resources, Biotechnologies, Analysis, Polymers, Chemical and Petrochemical Technology and the representative laboratories are the bio-resources laboratory, screening laboratory, and analysis laboratory. Bio-resources Department specializes in bioresources development and knowledge valorization for the agri-food industry.
The Romanian research institute is looking for international partners (SMEs, SME+research organization) involved in the production of food/food supplements or feed additives to form a consortium in the next Eurostars calls (September 2023, March 2024).
The main topics are the valorization of raw materials from natural renewable resources (plant peptide-rich protein hydrolysates) and identification and quantification of chemical compounds by conventional and modern methods; valorization of agri-food waste/by-products; classical and modern methods of extraction of active ingredients from yeasts and medicinal and aromatic plants with applications in the food and feed sectors.
One of the 2 SMEs (from the international consortium) will be the international coordinator of the Eurostars project. To form the consortia for Eurostars projects, the Romanian institute can identify the right SME in Romania, either for the coordination of the international project or for the realization of the national consortium, depending on the project idea.
Eurostars (https://www.eurekanetwork.org/open-calls/?country=all) is a funding instrument that supports innovative SMEs and project partners (large companies, universities, research organisations and other types of organisations) by funding international collaborative R&D and innovation projects. By participating, organisations can access public funding for international collaborative R&D projects in all fields. - Advantages and Innovations
-
The Romanian institute has previous experience and has partnered with and supported various SMEs in the food and feed additive sector within Eurostars/Eureka projects.
It can identity the right SME in Romania to coordinate or to be part of the consortium.
In all Eureka/Eurostars projects, the institute collaborated with industrial partners in Romania involved in the experimental development and demonstration of the technology or product in industrial pilot plants. The results of the projects are functional ingredients, feed additives, functional food products, food supplements, cosmetics, etc.
The main objective of these projects is to develop innovative products and promote the principles of the circular economy through participation in various European initiatives. - Stage of Development

Partner Sought
- Expected Role of a Partner
-
Each potential partner participant should check national conditions for receiving funds. There are no general European rules. The main eligibility condition is for the project coordinator to be an RTD performer SME having at least 10% of turnover invested in research activities OR having at least 10% of employees involved in research activities. It is better that the coordinator should be a relevant SME in technology transfer, and industrial development and have a history of coordinating research projects in general terms.
Partners must have complementary expertise to the Romanian partners and be able to develop and produce a similar product (food ingredient/food product/food supplements/cosmetic/feed additive) to the product developed by the Romanian consortium. It is an advantage for the potential partner to have international cooperation experience. The company is mainly targeting cooperation with other SMEs (manufacturing SMEs) and research organisation but only in cooperation with SMEs. - Type and Size of Partner
