- Short Summary
- A Greek foundation, in collaboration with the palliative care unit of a Greek University, has developed a state-of-the-art ecosystem of support and care for critically ill patients. It seeks universities, research institutions, AI & digital health developers, healthcare providers, and policymakers in the palliative healthcare sector to enhance the palliative care ecosystem further, through a research cooperation agreement.
- Full Description
-
A Greek non-profit foundation, established in 1992, has developed a strategic partnership with the palliative care unit of a Greek university to contribute to the development, expansion, and research-driven evolution of supportive and palliative care to patients with chronic and life-threatening diseases in Greece.
Their work focuses on five key areas:
1. Scientific research & digital documentation
They employ structured, evidence-based methodologies to enhance clinical decision-making, symptom management, and patient outcomes across the entire disease trajectory concerning either survivorship or end of life. By integrating AI-driven analytics, real-time monitoring, and epidemiological data, they are able to refine treatment personalization and risk assessment. Their research extends to psychological support, spiritual care, and family-centered interventions, addressing the multidimensional impact of illness. Additionally, they emphasize anticipatory care planning, ensuring informed decision-making and optimized long-term management. Through this comprehensive approach, they advance medical science and patient-centered research, bridging technology and holistic healthcare.
2. Open knowledge & digital education
They plan to develop a comprehensive digital platform that will host a repository of best practices, scientific publications, and educational toolkits. This initiative aims to support healthcare professionals, caregivers, and patients, providing them with up-to-date, research-backed information and training materials.
3. Scientific & public engagement
They actively conduct training seminars, workshops, and awareness campaigns to enhance professional education and public literacy in supportive and palliative care. Their initiatives emphasize their essential role in managing chronic illnesses, alleviating pain and other symptoms, and addressing psychosocial and spiritual needs. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and evidence-based practices, they aim to bridge the gap between research and community awareness. Through strategic outreach, they advocate for early integration of supportive and palliative care, ensuring informed decision-making and improved quality of life for patients and their families.
4. Collaborative research initiatives
The Foundation engages in multidisciplinary national and international research, advancing clinical excellence, educational methodologies, and technology-enhanced care models. Their investigations encompass chronic disease trajectory, pharmacology, pain and symptom management, psychosocial and complimentary interventions, and the integration of digital health solutions to optimize patient outcomes. Through evidence-based approaches, they contribute to the evolution of personalized medicine and holistic healthcare strategies.
5. Expansion of palliative care services
They promote the development of comprehensive palliative care structures, including home-based, inpatient, outpatient, day-care and community-based services, ensuring equitable access for all patients. By integrating technology, interdisciplinary expertise, and policy reforms, they enhance service delivery and sustainability. The Greek Foundation is dedicated to strengthening healthcare systems, supporting families, specializing and training professionals, and advancing research-driven innovations in supportive and palliative care.
