General information
- Short Summary
- A Dutch scale up, technical university spin off, has developed an ultra low power GNSS and IoT chip. This single chip replaces a set of chips that are used in battery fed trackers and positioning devices. These trackers can be more compact, will have have an up to 10 times longer life and reduced costs. The company is looking for companies manufacturing these products for consumers and professional applications within the framework of a commercial agreement with technical assistance.
- Full Description
-
With society becoming more and more digital, the need for tracing of assets both in consumer and professional applications is strongly growing. It offers a lot of added value when you know where your bicycle, dog, live stock or container is. Based on this information action can be taken and processes can be optimized. At this moment all kind of battery fed tracking devices are available but they are limited by their battery life. Most power in trackers is consumed by the processing of the GNSS signals (GPS, Galileo eo) and the radio communication via IoT media (bluetooth, wifi). These functions are covered by different chips.
The founders of this technical university spin off, who are pioneers in the field of digital radio frequency (DRF), have developed an ultra low power solution that combines all these functions in one chip, leading up to a 10 times longer life of trackers. This enables increased asset tracebility and also makes new tracking applications come within reach. In addition the one chip solution also reduces cost and complexity in the manufacturing process of the tracker.
In the growth path to mass production and becoming a global player, the scale up is looking for manufacturers (OEM, ODM) of all kind of tracking devices for consumers and industrial applications. Such as personal trackers, IoT health care devices, asset trackers, cattle trackers, freight trackers and trackers for the manufacturing industry.
With these companies the scale up wants to align roadmaps to identify a qualification window to become a supplier for production in 2024. Evaluation of a limited number of development kits with already selected clients is planned for this year. - Advantages and Innovations
-
Advantages of the chip technology:
- the single chip replaces a multichip solution and therefore takes cost and complexity out of the customer supply chain, makes their manufacturing more efficient and improves the performance of the product (ao is smaller in size).
- avoids CO2 emissions by 90% less power consumption and more efficient manufacturing processes
Innovative aspects of the chip technology:
- the receiver of GNSS signals (Global Navigation Satelite System) in the chip is digitized instead of the currently applied analog building blocks.
- the GNSS engine in the chip enables parallel digital signal processing instead of current sequential processing.
- the full integration of digital radio frequency (DRF) enables a reconfigurable and software defined radio. - Stage of Development
