General information

Short Summary
The project aims to develop a vendor-neutral Battery Passport and Circular Value Chain Platform to optimize the sustainability, traceability, and lifecycle management of battery systems. Leveraging predictive analytics, real-time supply chain orchestration, and digital twin technology, Turkish SME will contribute to building resilient and circular manufacturing ecosystems aligned with the principles of the circular economy.
Full Description
Circular economy principles demand optimized usage and maximized lifecycle of critical components such as lithium-ion batteries. Current systems lack traceability, real-time health assessment, and structured decision-making for second-life applications. This project introduces a Battery Passport to track the entire lifecycle, combined with decision logic for reusing or recycling, based on performance data and LCA results. The solution aligns with CIRCULOOS goals by ensuring circularity, reducing waste, and increasing resource efficiency.

The project aims to develop a modular and comprehensive digital Battery Passport that optimizes the reuse and recycling of lithium-ion battery packs through enhanced traceability, lifecycle management, and end-of-life decision support. By leveraging CIRCULOOS tools, this solution will integrate real-time performance metrics and sustainability assessments to inform second-life and recycling decisions, contributing to the circular economy principles outlined in CIRCULOOS Call 2.
Advantages and Innovations
The project introduces a data-centric framework that combines real-time monitoring, lifecycle analysis, and digital decision-making to improve the sustainability and efficiency of lithium-ion battery value chains. By integrating the Battery Passport with the CIRCULOOS toolset, the solution supports both manufacturers and remanufacturers in making informed, traceable, and circular decisions throughout the battery lifecycle.

- Comprehensive Lifecycle Tracking: Real-time performance monitoring from manufacturing to EOL.
- Decision Logic for Circularity: Intelligent decision support for reuse vs. recycling based on LCA analysis.
- Integration with CIRCULOOS Tools: Direct data exchange with RAMP and GRETA for optimized lifecycle assessments.
- Enhanced circularity in lithium-ion battery management.
- Demonstrated reduction in waste and increased reuse efficiency.
- Improved economic and environmental sustainability through informed decision-making.
- Strengthened collaboration between battery manufacturers and sustainability experts.
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought
The project seeks European-based partners, particularly SMEs active in battery manufacturing and battery remanufacturing, to support the deployment and validation of a data-driven Battery Passport framework within the CIRCULOOS platform.

The Turkish SME is seeking a Battery Manufacturing SME capable of implementing the CIRCULOOS Data Platform and GRETA tools to enable real-time data acquisition, sustainability assessment, and traceability throughout the battery production process. The selected partner will play a key role in providing high-resolution manufacturing data essential for the Digital Battery Passport.

The Turkish SME is also looking for a Battery Remanufacturer SME with operational expertise in repurposing and diagnosing second-life lithium-ion batteries. This partner will utilize the Battery Passport and Decision Support Tool to assess and optimize reuse scenarios, contributing to more circular and sustainable battery value chains.

Partner Sought

Expected Role of a Partner
1. Role of Battery Manufacturing SME: The project is looking for a Battery Manufacturing SME capable of deploying and utilizing the CIRCULOOS Data Platform and GRETA tools to enable real-time monitoring, structured data collection, and sustainability analysis across the battery production process. The partner will play a critical role in supplying accurate and traceable production data necessary for the generation of Battery Passports and ensuring alignment with EU digital and environmental standards. The partner should be able to capture key production metrics such as serial numbers, batch IDs, voltage, current, temperature, cycle life, State of Health (SOH), and State of Charge (SOC). IoT sensors must be deployed across the manufacturing line to enable continuous performance monitoring. The data should be stored in a structured SQL or NoSQL database that supports efficient access and querying. Full integration with the CIRCULOOS Data Platform is required for real-time synchronization. The collected data must be securely transmitted to the RAMP tool for digital twin creation and to GRETA for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). The manufacturing process must support traceability at the cell, module, and pack levels using unique identifiers to enable end-to-end lifecycle tracking. Automated data flow should be achieved via API-based communication infrastructure. Additionally, the partner should be able to provide historical performance logs for cycle life, SOH, and degradation analysis upon request.

2. Role of Battery Remanufacturer SME: The project is also seeking a Battery Remanufacturer SME with experience in battery diagnostics, repurposing, and reuse strategies to support second-life optimization of lithium-ion battery packs. The partner will utilize the Battery Passport and contribute to the development and validation of a Decision Support Tool that guides remanufacturing decisions based on technical, economic, and environmental criteria. The partner should be capable of accessing the Battery Passport to evaluate the health, usage history, and remaining life of each battery pack. Based on this information, they will assess SOH, SOC, and cycle count to determine the most appropriate second-life pathway, whether for reuse, repurposing, or recycling. Their practical insights will help enhance predictive algorithms for estimating Remaining Useful Life (RUL) and support the creation of data-driven reuse strategies. The partner will contribute to the development of the Decision Support Tool by defining and validating key parameters for comparing performance and economic outcomes across different reuse scenarios. They should be able to integrate with the GRETA tool to assess the environmental impact of proposed remanufacturing processes, including energy use, emissions, and material recovery. The partner must also ensure that remanufacturing data is synchronized with the CIRCULOOS Data Platform and RAMP in real time. Lastly, feedback on usability, data visualization, and decision-making processes will be critical to ensure the final solution is practical, scalable, and aligned with industry needs. The partner will be actively involved in field validation and testing to confirm that the Decision Support Tool functions effectively under real-world conditions.
