Machine Vision plays a fundamental role to verify whether a product satisfies given quality standards, especially in highly automated production environments. Compared to manual inspection, quality control based on Computer Vision has several advantages: not only it is faster, but also it is more objective since it does not depend on human factors.
Machine vision for quality control includes several types of tasks, such as detection of the presence/absence of certain elements after their assembly; identification of defects or flaws on a the surface of a product, for example scratches or cracks; verification of the dimension of a mechanical component, for instance compared to a CAD model; or the detection and validation of the legibility of printed labels or barcodes and QR codes on packaging, among the others.
The Romanian company developed software solutions for ensuring quality control, with a focus on manufacturing processes characterized by the need of high performance, both in terms of speed (minimal latency) and top-notch robustness and accuracy of the system. In particular,they are one of the first companies developing software for neuromorphic (event-based) cameras, a revolutionary family of cameras capable of capturing information from scenes at extremely high frequency and in low-light and high-contrast conditions.
Such cameras are ideal for quality control of processes such as welding, milling, sputtering and more in general all high-speed manufacturing processes which can benefit from real-time visual inspection, which would not be possible with regular frame-based cameras. Thanks to more than a decade of experience in scientific research, the Romanian team deliver solutions based on the most advanced methodologies and algorithms from Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence, for tasks where standard Computer Vision methods often fail.
Their solutions come in the form of preset models, with the possibility to be easily customized (on the edge) to specific tasks, by using few example images and without the need of knowledge in programming or Machine Learning. The software is not bound to specific camera brand or computer platform, allowing a straightforward adoption and integration in existing production environments.
